The man where strikeouts go to die
The man has 18 AB's (at-bats) and the stats are astounding for a rookie. He has eight hits out of those 18 AB's, making his batting average a killer .444. He has four doubles, five RBI's (runs batted-in), five runs and two stolen bases. This is the other astounding stat: He has six walks to only two strikeouts. That is a great and telling stat for a rookie because it demonstrates how patient he is; he will not swing at a bad pitch. And here is my favorite stat: One home-run. Two reasons for making it my favorite: 1) it was his first during Spring Training and 2) it was mammoth!
Sports writers in attendance that day said it at least was 450 ft. And he was originally facing an 0-2 count (no balls, two strikes) and was able to work the count to full (3-2) before blasting it out of the park. Here's a video of that miracle home run:
My baby's first spring training home run....
Sorry for the music in the background, and then the awkward ending in the middle of an interview towards the end. But he raked that ball. And it came off a projected starter of the Detroit Tigers.
My blushing and gushing for the man can end. Thank you for the indulgence.
Now, on to my post. I don't know if other Major League Baseball parks do this for their players but at "The Ted" (Turner Field, where the Bravos play), as a Braves player approaches the plate to hit, that player's favorite "theme song" is blasted over the sound system. And it is a mighty huge and loud sound system.
Now I have always been intrigued by this because of some of the song choices people have chosen. Some are known to every Braves fan in Atlanta. For example, Chipper Jones strides to the plate with this "theme song" blaring:
Good thing I wasn't a bat in his grasp...
Pretty intimidating, right? I mean the song is about a crazy train! Ozzy shouts in a demonic voice "Ay Ay Ay Ay". That has to feel good to Chipper as he comes up to the plate to face the opposing pitcher. By the way, it's always funny to hear half the stadium do the "Ay Ay Ay" part.
Another Braves' player, Brian McCann struts to the tune of "The Boss" by Rick Ross. Now I would've shared this video on the post but it's never a good sign when more than half of the song has a ____ in every verse....that's my best impression of the word edited out for clean listening. That and the video had this fat dude and a chick in bed and we are a playschool blog......sorta.
Perhaps one of my favorites comes from a newcomer to the Braves this year, closer Billy Wagner. Now for closers, it's a bit different. They have a song they coming running out to, but it isn't when they're running to the plate. It is when they are coming on in the ninth inning to close out a game. Their song usually gets more air time since the closer comes out in between the eighth and ninth innings and gets the crowd pretty pumped up.
Wagner's "theme song" for pitching is a Metallica classic:
Perfect example of a MANLY song
I've always wondered what it would be like to have my own "theme song." Peter Griffin was once allowed three wishes and on his second wish, asked to have his own "theme song", with hilarious consequences:
NOT a manly song....
And it can't be the wrong genre. Imagine walking up to the plate to this!
We can rule out all Eighties pop songs....
I need to end this novel so I will stick to the song that always gets my adrenaline pumping, and the blood circulating nicely. Honestly, so many other songs could've made do but I've always loved this one. My arse will never step foot onto the field of a baseball park; to cause chills to go down the spine of the opposing pitcher as I step into the batter box. As I dig in, kicking dirt up as I place my right and left feet soundly, there will never be some poor sap, upon hearing my "theme song", start wondering if an intentional walk would be better.
No, those things will never happen. So, to satisfy my manly needs of being intimidating and cool (attempting to) I can perhaps download the song and play it on the intercom system at work for all to hear prior to opening up the office to deal with legal problems of everyday citizens............Why didn't I join the baseball team at school again?
Feel free to share your own songs on the bloviating comment board.

Wake up, by Rage Against the Machine
Well, you'll think I'm lame, but 'So What?' by Pink always works for me! It taps into my alter-ego superbitch that I'd love to be but am too nice to try...
(BTW, you need to change my blog address, it's the old one. It's www.agreatadventure-croeso.blogspot.com. Also add some more, I want to see what else you're reading!)
(Oh, and you should check out this blog: http://busninja.blogspot.com. It's written by Eric, an old friend from college, who is finishing up at BYU now, but he's about your age. Anyway, he's hilarious. Tell him I sent ya!)
